Coed Farm Instructional Softball (Grades Pre-K to 1st Grade)
The aims and goals of the pre-K-1 softball programs is to introduce Wayland girls to softball in a fun and engaging program while focusing on a progression of skill development.
The rookie softball is specifically designed to introduce the game our younger players who have never participated in softball before. In addition to providing the initial introduction it ensures ongoing and continuing exposure to softball skills and game play those returning to the program in 1st grade. There is no previous experience necessary in order to participate in either K or 1st grade.
The K-1 softball program was developed through a collaboration of the Wayland Little League and Frozen Ropes, the Metrowest’s preeminent organization specializing in youth softball and baseball skill development.
Our program incorporates a combination of fast paced and fun drills using varied stations. Drills will be lead by professional Frozen Ropes profesional instructors with assistance from parent coaches and volunteers from Middle and High School Programs.
In addition to the drills, we will play controlled scrimmages to allow the girls to apply these skills in a game situation. The girls will work in small groups organized by experience level and enjoy an engaging and rapidly changing environment.
Rookie Softball is played:
In town at a Wayland town softball field.
Beginning after spring school break and running through to the middle of June.
We work to ensure that there will be no conflicts with other sports. Many players who play rookie softball also play spring soccer as practices and games for soccer take place on Saturday.
